Step 1:
Add 2 TBSP of the root beer extract and 2 1/2 cups of sugar to 4 quarts of cold water and mix thoroughly in a open food-safe container.
NOTE: do not cover the container with a lid during preparation as it may cause the container to explode.
Step 2:
Add 1 lb of broken dry ice to the mixture without covering in a well ventilated area and stir frequently to prevent dry ice from clumping to the bottom of the container. Continue until the dry ice has been completely dissolved.
